The Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities at Rutgers University-Camden invites you to join History, Memory, and Disability Rights: Creating Inclusive Public Humanities Programs, a one-day public humanities conference on Saturday, November 19, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

This program is co-sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities, Rutgers University-Camden; the New Jersey Council for the Humanities; Millersville University; The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers University; The University of Delaware, Center for Disability Studies; Pennhurst Memorial and Preservation Alliance, Pennsylvania TASH; Pennsylvania History Coalition Honoring People with Disabilities; The Arc of Pennsylvania; and the Western Pennsylvania Disability History and Action Consortium.

Registration is $20 and includes lunch. We are able to offer 10 “scholarships” that waive the registration fee to people with intellectual, developmental, or other disabilities; self-advocates are encouraged to apply. Funding is available for the first 10 individuals who apply. Please send name, address, and email address to Tamara Gaskell, at tamara.gaskell@rutgers.edu, by October 31.

Mikaela Maria, a graduate of our M.A. program, participated in a roundtable session about graduate student participation in digital and public history projects at the biennial conference of the Urban History Association, held in Chicago October 13-16, 2016.  Mikaela currently works as a museum assistant at the Wells Fargo Museum in Philadelphia and as editorial assistant for The Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia, based at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities (MARCH) at Rutgers-Camden.  MARCH sponsored her participation in the conference.

Our graduate peer-reviewed journal, the Madison Historical Review, is now accepting submissions for our Spring 2017 issue. We would greatly appreciate it if you would distribute our information (see attachments) to your graduate students.

The journal highlights work from graduate students in the fields of American, Public, and World History. All MA students and first and second year PhD students enrolled in any history program, including but not limited to history, art history, historical archaeology, and public history, may submit articles for publication. Article submissions may include original research, historiographies, book reviews, exhibit reviews, and website reviews. The deadline for all submissions is January 1, 2017.
