2017 Barnes Club Conference Proposals

The James A. Barnes Club, Temple University’s graduate student history organization will hold its annual , is pleased to announce the  Graduate Student History Conference.The  Conference  Friday evening March 24 and Saturday March 25, 2017, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Temple’s Center City Campus in downtown Philadelphia. Proposals from graduate students for individual papers or panels are welcome on any topic, time period, or approach to history. We welcome proposals that foreground public history and digital humanities, and are eager to work with applicants in these fields to facilitate their participation. Panels will include three or four paper presentations, running between fifteen and twenty minutes each, with comment and questions to follow.  At the conclusion of the conference, cash prizes will be awarded to the best papers in multiple scholarly categories. Of particular note is the Russell F. Weigley – U.S. Army Heritage Center Foundation Award, a substantial award offered through the U.S. Army Heritage Center to the best paper in military history presented at the conference.Please submit a 250 word abstract that outlines your original research and a current C.V. to jabconf@temple.edu no later than Friday, January 20, 2016.

Publication Opportunity

The Tufts Historical Review Editorial Board is delighted to announce a call for submissions to Volume X of the Tufts Historical Review, an academic journal of global history that seeks both undergraduate and graduate papers of the highest caliber. This year, our journal will be centered around the theme of Legends. From the golden expanses of El Dorado to the battlefield of Kosovo Polje, legends fundamentally shape our history. These are just a few examples. The Editorial Board seeks outstanding articles – between 2,500 and 8,000 words – that explore our theme from a diverse array of perspectives.

Paid Internship Opportunity

The Athenaeum of Philadelphia, an independent research library with nationally significant historic collections documenting American architecture and design, seeks a part-time intern to assist with the arrangement, description, and digitization of architectural drawings, photographs, scrapbooks and manuscripts.  The intern will work under the supervision of the Curator of Architecture on a project to process materials documenting the establishment of Rose Valley, PA, an Arts & Crafts community in Delaware County.  The successful candidate will have experience handling historic materials, as well as digital scanning and image management processes. This position is open to undergraduate and graduate students only.   Available Immediately  Term: 200 hours (must be completed no later than May 31, 2017)
Stipend: $2500
